Reverse Osmosis-Electrodeionisation (RO-EDI) Systems
Our RO–EDI systems are ideal for pharmaceutical, electronics, biotechnology, and laboratory applications where even trace impurities can compromise product quality, research accuracy, or equipment integrity. With resistivity levels up to 15 MΩ·cm, the water produced is consistently free from ions, endotoxins, and organic contaminants.
What is Ro–EDI?
RO–EDI is a two-phase water purification system involving Reverse Osmosis for the removal of dissolved solids, along with Electrodeionization, which continually deionizes water while making use of electrically active membranes and ion exchange media. EDI, on the other hand does not include the chemical regeneration typically required by ion exchange thus making it environmentally sound and economical.

Key Features of Aquamech RO–EDI Systems
- Skid-Mounted Design: Every system is provided as a pre-engineered skid, which reduces installation time and ensures plug-and-play operation at your site.
- High Water Purity Output: Consistently produces water with resistivity between 10–15 MΩ·cm, suitable for critical applications including pharmaceutical-grade purified water.
- Stainless Steel Construction: All wetted parts are made of SS316L to provide corrosion resistance, longevity, and meet GMP and cGMP requirements.
- Compact & Modular Configuration: Flow capacities from 100 LPH to 25,000 LPH are available and can be specified based on your plant and process needs.
- Energy-Efficient Operation: Equipped with Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) pumps and automated process control, our RO–EDI units offer significant operational savings over time.
High-Purity Water Treatment Combining RO & Electrodeionization
Aquamech’s RO–EDI systems are designed to automatically produce ultra-pure water for industries that demand high water quality. The systems are integrated optimally and engineered into a skid-mounted, packaged systems including Reverse Osmosis (RO) pretreatment and Electrodeionization (EDI) polishing technologies into a single chemical-free, energy-efficient, minimum-footprint process. The systems work together optimally with RO as the primary desalination and EDI polishing to produce high quality water to international standards.
What sets our systems apart is not just performance but also long-term dependability, low maintenance requirements, and full compliance with cGMP and regulatory norms. Each unit is designed for ease of installation, operation, and monitoring, supported by Aquamech’s decades of expertise in high-purity water systems.
Whether you are setting up a new facility or upgrading an existing one, Aquamech’s RO–EDI units provide a smart, sustainable, and reliable solution for ultra-pure water generation—trusted by clients across India and overseas.

Applications of RO–EDI Systems
Aquamech’s RO–EDI systems are widely used in industries that demand ultra-pure, deionized water with minimal organic and ionic contaminants. Common applications include:
- Pharmaceutical Manufacturing: For USP-grade purified water and Water for Injection (WFI) loops.
- Biotechnology & Life Sciences: Ideal for cell culture, reagent preparation, and sensitive biological processes.
- Microelectronics & Semiconductors: For ultra-clean water in wafer rinsing and cleanroom environments.
- Laboratory Use: Supports analytical instruments like HPLC, ICP-MS, and TOC analyzers.
- Power & Energy Sector: For boiler feedwater, turbine cooling, and condensate polishing.

Advantages Over Traditional Systems
• No Chemical Handling: Unlike mixed-bed ion exchange units, EDI eliminates the need for acid or caustic regeneration.
• Continuous Operation: The EDI process is continuous and does not require downtime for resin regeneration.
• Consistent Water Quality: Ensures stable resistivity and TOC levels suitable for stringent industry standards.
• Reduced Wastewater: High recovery rates result in lower wastewater generation and more sustainable operations.
• Lower Operating Costs: Reduced chemical, labor, and disposal costs over the system’s lifecycle.
How RO–EDI Works
1. Pretreatment: Feed water passes through multimedia filters and activated carbon units to remove suspended solids and chlorine.
2. Reverse Osmosis Stage: The RO unit reduces 90–98% of dissolved solids, providing high-quality permeate as feed water for EDI.
3. EDI Module: The EDI unit further polishes the RO permeate using ion exchange membranes and a direct current, continuously producing ultra-pure water without regeneration.
4. Monitoring & Control: Integrated digital instrumentation allows real-time monitoring of conductivity, resistivity, flow, and pressure—ensuring consistent output and system integrity.
